| DANCE | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Our students enjoy dance enrichment through the Arts Cadre program. The dance curriculum is shared throughout the school, with the students learning freedom in movement as well as choreographed routines and traditional dances. In addition to developing motor skills and technique in dance, our kids learn the vocabulary of dance and study the comprehension and analysis of dance elements. Through these units, the children gain a perspective of dance, revealing meaning in artistic movement, historical and cultural relevance, and connections to other art forms. After each class, the students write in their journals, reflecting on their dance lesson, reinforcing what they've learned and sparking further inquiry for next time. In addition to the Arts Cadre curriculum, many classes and grade levels partake in further dance activities. The entire 3rd grade learns the techniques and cultural aspects to square dancing and performs during Open House night. Other classes treat their families to dance performances during classroom parties and talent shows. Children love to move and be creative -- if you are interested in helping your classroom in the area of dance, please approach your child's teacher and have fun implementing dance into the classroom! Parents often share their skills and interests with their children's classes. And you don't have to be a professional dancer to get the kids creating with movement to music. You will be rewarded with exuberant smiles, responsive bodies, and healthy spirits.
