Welcome to SOPA!

S.O.P.A. is the Sherman Oaks (Elementary) Parents Association, the non-profit corporation made up of families and stakeholders of Sherman Oaks Elementary School.

Where public funding of education falls short, we step up and excel.

Currently, taxes do not pay for a complete, well-rounded education in the various fields of art, music, kinesthetics, and technology.

Our classroom teachers are incredible, and provide our children with the highest degree of academic and social education, and SOPA supplements and enriches each child's education with specialized art, music, p.e., technology, and science classes taught by professionals. In addition, we provide a full-time nurse for the well-being of our kids.

These programs do not just magically exist at our school. You, me, and the parent next to you are the ones who provide these items for our children during the regular school day.

How do we do this? These important classes are paid for by all of us directly through the Annual Fund, through various fun fundraisers, and by community involvement through our Great Neighbors and Community Supporters programs.

Visit the pages to the left for more in-depth information on how SOPA works hand-in-hand with the School to provide a world-class education for our children.

Get involved -- teachers and education professionals will tell you: the kids with involved parents achieve the highest. You do not have to be a stay-at-home parent to be involved! There are so many opportunities to be involved outside of work hours. The pride your children feel when they know how much you care about their education and how you helped make their schooling better will stay with them for their lifetime.

Select from the Volunteering Opportunities, contact any Board member , or ask around how you can get involved and make a difference!

Stay informed through this website, weekly SOPA Bulletins, SOPA Blast emails, monthly SOPA Meetings, Room Parent emails, weekly phone messages from the principal, and the monthly Tiger Times.
