great neighbors program

Sherman Oaks Elementary thrives because of the generosity of the community.

The SOES education is funded by taxes and charitable gifts. Unfortunately, taxes alone do not pay for a complete, enriched education. Families and friends, foundations and corporations, faculty and staff, and alumni and benevolent neighbors are all integral to the success of the institution. Our collective families (SOPA) and community partners provide financial support which empowers the school to develop impressive campus resources and dynamic programs, yielding one of the best educations around.

The Annual Fund
Gifts to the Annual Fund make the difference between a strong academic program and an extraordinary "whole child" education engaging in music, art, athletics, and technology, as well as special kinder science, and healthcare with our nurse. The cost for these programs at the school breaks down to only $500 per child per year. While we ask each family to donate $500 per child, the goal is for every family to participate at a level that is comfortable, whether that be $100 or $10,000. Every family has the opportunity to be part of the program, to feel that extra sense of community. Annual Fund gifts enrich every aspect of student life, from the arts to sciences, from the nurse's office to the athletic field, from music to technology and more, enabling the school to offer innovative new programs. Your donations to SOPA are 100% tax-deductible (check with your account for your individual situation). Many employers will match your monetary donations or match your volunteer hours with cash for our children's programs!

Additional Ways to Raise Funds
Many families choose to simply write a $500 check, or schedule monthly installments through PayPal, and enjoy the year. Other fun ways to raise the needed funds are available as well, through fun fund raisers, and even easy free ways that result in money for the school!

Great Neighbors & Community Supporters
As a shining example of how Sherman Oaks Elementary is tightly integrated with the community, our Great Neighbors and Community Supporters programs provide mutually beneficial partnerships between local businesses and the school.

Capital Campaigns
Whereas the Annual Fund is necessary for the ongoing day-to-day wellbeing of the school's programs, and Endowment ensures the future, Capital Campaigns are tailored to fund specific major projects, for example, construction of facilities like our Computer Lab, and planned Science Lab, campus beautification, or new gymnatorium.

Endowment Fund
Sherman Oaks' ultimate goal is to be able to support every program and continue to provide for every child regardless of the family's ability to pay. Endowment is crucial to the well being and security of SOPA's mission, and enables the school to:
*Remain confident that the quality of the school and its programs will not change in time of economic downturns and governmental education cuts.
*Expand the resources available for our students' education, e.g. environmental education trips, performance assemblies, endowed enrichment teacher positions, etc.
*Help fund major new programs, like our new first-class technology lab.
*Reserve a portion of the budget for emergencies that may arise during the year.
